Description:
The San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park (www. sandiegozoo.org) is a zoo in the San Pasqual Valley area of San Diego, California. The park houses a large array of wild and endangered animals including species from the continents of Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America, and Australia. The park is in a semi-arid environment and one of its most notable features is the Journey into Africa tour which explores the expansive African exhibits in trams. These free-range enclosures house such animals as cheetahs, antelopes, lions, giraffes, okapis, elephants, zebras, Przewalski's horses, rhinos, and bonobos. The park is 1,800 acres and home to more than 3,500 animals, representing 429 species. It is a wildlife preserve that mimics the natural habitats of African and Asian animals.
What Providence Students are saying:
- "I was not aware that the San Diego Zoo was so prominent in breeding endangered species. I also didn't know that there were so many different animals that were endangered."
- "As Christians we can appreciate the animal kingdom as created by God, each species and sub-species being specially crafted by Him. Some eat plants and run on very long legs, while others are furry and have feet made for climbing on rocks. It causes us to think that God must have an inexhaustible imagination."
- "At Providence we learn about different animals in our science classes. Here at the Wild Animal Park we were able to see these animals in something very close to their natural habitat."
