Julie joined the Providence staff in July of 2004 as the Assistant Dean of Student Life and Resident Director. She served as the Resident Director for four years until the college grew and the workload became too much for one person to handle. Along with assisting the Dean of Student Life with his responsibilities, Julie's primary responsibilities are the 4W Program and chapel program. "I love getting to plan the different 4W experiences and see our students stretched and challenged by the places we go and things we see. And I absolutely love Wednesday and Friday mornings when we meet together for a time of 'Providence Family Devotions' during chapel." Julie works with a student assistant to plan and implement the chapel times. She also oversees the Resident Life program along with the Resident Director.
Julie grew up in nearby Chino, California, attending Ontario Christian Schools K-12. After high school she headed off to Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa. She graduated from Dordt with a bachelor’s degree in theology with a youth ministry emphasis and minors in church music and Bible education. At Dordt, Julie was active in planning chapels and leading student worship. “I loved being a part of campus ministry,” she says, “and it has been wonderful helping shape the spiritual life program here at Providence.”
After four years in snowy Iowa Julie was delighted to return to southern California beaches and warm-weather activities: sailing with her dad in the ocean, attending Dodger home games, and playing volleyball. In addition, Julie is a music-lover who plays piano and sings—often for Providence chapels and convocations. She attends First United Reformed Church in Chino where she is the choir director and pianist. She is also looking forward to getting married in December to her fiancé, Steve Bussis. |
