President

“I thank God for his power, grace, and leading as we begin this journey of establishing a strong Reformed college on the West Coast. We are committed at Providence Christian College to seeking God's leading as we prepare students to engage God's world,” says N. James Den Ouden, the first president of Providence Christian College.

With over 35 years in Christian schools, President Den Ouden brings a wealth of teaching and leadership experience to the college. Prior to taking up his presidential duties he was superintendent at Valley Christian Schools in Cerritos, California. He has also served as superintendent at Calvin Christian in Escondido, California, as a high school principal at Valley Christian High School, and as a history teacher at the middle school and high school levels. President Den Ouden earned his bachelor’s degree from Dordt College, a master’s degree in history from California State University, Long Beach and an additional master’s in educational administration from California State University, Fullerton. He remains active with Christian Schools International (CSI), and coordinates an annual teacher’s conference on the Providence campus each summer.

President Den Ouden and his wife, Anne, have been married for 40 years. Mrs. Den Ouden is retired after 25 years as an elementary school teacher and now devotes herself to their four grandchildren and to aiding Providence in her role as “first lady.” In addition to their presidential duties, they are active leaders at CrossPoint Church (CRC) in Chino, California. President Den Ouden finds relaxation from the stresses of guiding a new college in the fields and trout streams; he is an avid hunter and fly-fisherman.
