PCC Launches Athletics Program
Keri Whitaker, Providence Cross Country Coach

Providence Christian College is pleased to introduce a Cross Country Program for the upcoming fall semester. Cross Country will be Providence's first intercollegiate sport. For the inaugural season there will be eight students participating, and they will be coached by Keri Whitaker.

Whitaker is excited about building the program from the ground up. She sees Providence in a very advantageous position as a small, upstart program:

“What makes cross country at Providence different than other schools is the fact that we are small,” she explained, “We have the luxury of developing a personal running program for the students individually and as a team.”

The new athletics program is centered upon biblical principles, which will shape and guide this fledgling endeavor. One of the key aspects of the athletics program will be the community that is developed and facilitated through practice and competition.

“We will be running together, having fellowship together, and writing a new page in the history books for Providence with athletics,” Coach Whitaker said.

Southern California affords many opportunities for students to run in a variety of races as well as providing strong competition. The cross country runners will participate in college invitationals and street races throughout the fall semester. The college anticipates adding a full cross country schedule in the Fall of 2010 as well as beginning to offer a variety of other athletics programs.

Providence is always looking for an opportunity to add student athletes to the program. If you or a student athlete you know is interested in being part of a historical time in the college’s athletics history, please contact us by calling (626) 696-4000.
