Location: LA Regional Food Bank, Los Angeles, CA
Description:
Although Los Angeles is often known for the glamour of the red carpet, 1 in 10 residents in Los Angeles County are at risk for hunger. The students spent the day putting together over 1600 food boxes that will be distributed to senior citizens in LA County over the upcoming week.
The LA Regional Food Bank is a large food clearinghouse for over 1,000 charities in Los Angeles. They have been fighting hunger for 35 years by feeding those living in poverty in Los Angeles.
As Christians, we are specifically commanded to care for those less fortunate ("the least of these" Matthew 25:40). By working at the food bank, Providence has helped to minister to the hungry, thirsty, and naked in our community. This work day was a blessing to the LA Regional Food Bank, the hungry in LA County, and the Providence students that served.
Providence students definitely felt like they made a difference on this 4-W Experience ... 1,600 families will be helped through the efforts of the Providence students and the LA Regional Food Bank.
