Location: Laurel Pines Christian Camp -- Big Bear, CA
Description:
Each year the Providence community has an All College Retreat. All students spend two days enjoying God's creation, learning from His word, and building relationships with other students, faculty, and staff members. Laurel Pines Christian Camp (a ministry of the Reformed Church in America) has hosted our college the last two years. The retreat center, at 8,000 feet, is higher than any other in Southern California, and it is breath-taking! The college group heads up the mountain after classes on Friday, stays overnight in the cabins and returns home the following evening. On Saturday, in addition to fun mixers and games, we have a guest speaker who challenges us to live out the Christian walk. Our guest speakers from the previous years have been ...
- 2005 -- Rev. Michael Brown, Christ URC, Santee, CA
- 2006 -- Dr. Dennis Johnson, Professor at Westminster Seminary California
- 2007 -- Rev. Bryce Hales, Christ Church (PCA), Pasadena, CA
This is a wonderful time to learn how to love God and love our neighbor in a very real way. This retreat has been an important part of building the Providence community.
What Providence students are saying:
- "I learned so much more about my fellow classmates on this trip. People, who at school, I hadn't talked to much. However, as well and good as that is, I was very blessed by the speaker. I got a deeper understanding of who I am and my calling as a student."
- "During the sessions, I was encouraged to serve God in whatever vocation he calls me to. I was reminded that I always have the offices of prophet, priest, and king and must faithfully fulfill those offices in every area of my life. The speaker also reminded us that we are who we are only by God's grace -- we are children of the heavenly father and important parts of the church of God."
